The Terrace

The renovation of an existing two storey house in Prahran takes its starting point from the modernist character of the existing building. The project continues the tradition of the Australian modernist architecture of the 60’s and 70’s and work of architects such as Robin Boyd, Roy Grounds and McGlashan and Everist.  An architectural style successfully adapted to an Australian way of life and environment.

Developing and updating the existing house using contemporary materials, fixtures and fittings and installing double glazing and new insulation improves the aesthetic and environmental performance of the building.  A new roof deck over the garage provides unexpected external space and city views from the compact site.

Specific details have been developed to express the natural character of, and honest approach to, the materials – reinterpreting details and materials found in modernist homes in a contemporary way.

Terrace House was a Gold Meal Winner at Melbourne Design Awards 2016.
