GOLD MEDAL WINNER: Melbourne Design Awards 2016

The renovation of an existing two storey house in Prahran takes its starting point from the modernist character of the existing building.   Developing and updating the existing house using contemporary materials, fixtures and fittings and installing double glazing and new insulation improves the aesthetic and environmental performance of the building.  A new roof deck over the garage provides unexpected external space and city views from the compact site.

The project evokes the Australian modernist architecture of the 60's and 70's and architects such as Robin Boyd, Roy Grounds and McGlashan and Everist.  Specific details have been developed to express the natural character of, and an honest approach to, the materials whilst reinterpreting details and materials found in modernist homes in a contemporary way.
